A club at the heart of the community
Newry Tennis Club was established in 1880, making us one of the oldest tennis clubs on the island of Ireland. Whether you're picking up a racket for the first time or a seasoned competitor, there's a place for you here.
We run a full programme of coaching, leagues, social events and competitions throughout the year — for all ages and abilities.
- 1880Founded — one of the first tennis clubs on the island of Ireland.
- 1976Reborn — derelict courts on the Warrenpoint Road restored by a new committee with 200 founding members.
- 1978Newry Open — the club launched one of Ulster's premier tournaments on the Harp Grand Prix Circuit.
- 1986Floodlights installed — courts relaid in the early 90s, senior team reaching Division One of the mixed league.
- 2008New polymeric courts — membership grows, teams entered at all levels of the Belfast & District League.
- 202650 years reborn — and the best is yet to come.
Years reborn
In 1976, a group of volunteers brought Newry Tennis Club back to life after two decades of dereliction. This year we celebrate 50 years since that rebirth — and the generations who made it happen.
