A club at the
heart of
the community

Newry Tennis Club was established in 1880, making us one of the oldest tennis clubs on the island of Ireland. Whether you're picking up a racket for the first time or a seasoned competitor, there's a place for you here.

We run a full programme of coaching, leagues, social events and competitions throughout the year — for all ages and abilities.

1880
Founded — one of the first tennis clubs on the island of Ireland.
1976
Reborn — derelict courts on the Warrenpoint Road restored by a new committee with 200 founding members.
1978
Newry Open — the club launched one of Ulster's premier tournaments on the Harp Grand Prix Circuit.
1986
Floodlights installed — courts relaid in the early 90s, senior team reaching Division One of the mixed league.
2008
New polymeric courts — membership grows, teams entered at all levels of the Belfast & District League.
2026
50 years reborn — and the best is yet to come.

Years Reborn
In 1976, a group of volunteers brought Newry Tennis Club back to life after two decades of dereliction. This year we celebrate 50 years since that rebirth — and the generations who made it happen.
What We Offer

Something for

Coaching

Professional coaching for all levels, from complete beginners to competitive players. Junior and adult sessions with qualified coaches throughout the week.

Leagues & Competitions

Club championships, the Newry Open, Leinster League and more. There's a level for every ambition, from first-timers to seasoned competitors.

Social Tennis

Every Thursday at 7pm — relaxed, fun sessions to play, meet new people, and enjoy the game at your own pace. All abilities welcome, just turn up.
